I’m what is called a Native, which means Skull Motor Harley-Davidson Colorado State Rams shirt I was born in Colorado. It’s not the big deal it used to be, the old saying when I was a kid was that nearly everyone was from somewhere else. Nowadays there are pioneer pride license plates for those who can claim something like four generations in Colorado. Being a Native and having lived here most of my life, with short hiatus in New Hampshire’s Lakes Region (family roots) as a small kid, you could say I’m a Colorado expert. So, here goes. Denver is a largish city, the greater Metro Area adding sprawl from almost Wyoming on the north to halfway down the state, to Pueblo, in the south. West to the east the sprawl now reaches from once-bucolic Conifer-Evergreen, still piney and mountain in some ways, to the flats of far east Aurora. Any Native over 30 will likely wrinkle their nose at Aurora. It’s past as a hastily patched together suburb known for prostitution venues when Lowry Air Force Base was between it and Denver just won’t leave our minds.
